Saturday Prep Day

We are in the middle of a winter cold front.  Freezing temperatures are keeping us indoors.

On this Saturday morning I spent the time prepping food for several different meals.  Cooking once and eating several times is always my way of cooking.

So what are some of the meals I have ready to go so far for the coming week?

Veggie Stir Fry
Beef Stir
BBQ Beef Sandwiches
Ham and Beans
Mac and Cheese with Ham
Shredded Beef for Tacos
Broccoli and Ham
Broccoli Soup
Salad
Vegetables all cut and ready to be eaten.

So what will you be eating this coming week?

  1. I know a few people that do a week’s worth of prep at once and they find it very helpful. I do find I save a lot of money when I meal plan.

  2. I should start prepping meals. Maybe I wouldn’t get so upset when it’s time to make dinner. I absolutely hate cooking, especially if there are more than 3 steps to a recipe.

  3. I should be doing this! I am terrible at doing a prep day but I know if I did it would make my life so much easier.

  4. I tried a few times to meal prep for the week and it just never works out well for some reason. I do meal plan, but prep stays on the days I cook it.

  6. That’s a great idea to do all that meal prep ahead of time. The worst part is cutting up all the veggies! I need to get more organized and plan out meals and prep work.

  7. Candy – I always have meals in my head. I have Scrambled veg as I call it as my cook when you can’t think of anything else (we have our own chooks & I add in any veggies from the garden plus anything I want to with onions). Pasta with vegies and cashews. Lentils with vegetables or Curried Lentils and rice. Pumpkin soup – Usually does 2 meals and I tossed one in the freezer. That’s what we have had lately. But I am working towards more enthusiasm this year. My “Discover” and “Leap” year 🙂

  8. I love cooking a bunch of things in advance as well so I don’t have to worry about what to eat on a busy work day. This week I’ve got some pasta and tacos prepared.

  9. It looks like you have a good line of meals for the week. I like the idea of cooking once for the week. I might have to give that a try. I do menu plan though and it helps me save money!

  10. Prepping meals as much as possible in advance makes life so much easier! My husband isn’t home by the time I start dinner and the less I have to do while corralling the kids the better! Right now I have Cauliflower Soup and Beef Stir Fry ready to go!

  12. The last few weeks I’ve been jumping on the meal-prep wagon, and it has been so helpful! I just love it. I’ve been prepping on Sundays, and this week I did a big batch of chicken thighs in the crockpot and also made up a bunch of brown rice, which we are using in different meals. Monday (and Tuesday leftovers) was BBQ Chicken Sandwiches, yesterday was stuffed peppers with chicken, rice, parmesan, and marinara, tonight is either burrito bowls (of the avocado is finally ripe!) or spaghetti with leftover ground turkey that I froze from last week 🙂

    When you meal prep, how do you keep your veggies/starches fresh until the end of the week? That’s where I run into problems. I know I can freeze my meat, but how do you handle it? I’d love your expert advice!

  13. I do some meal prep, but not too much. It’s something I want to get better at. I always try to make sure our fruits and veggies are washed, cut, and ready to eat. I usually also portion out almonds into little bags because if not I eat way too many. Lol. That’s about it. I’d love to have more of a prep day.
