Amish White Bread

My mouth starts to water just looking at this wonderful homemade bread.  If you have never attempted to make bread before, please don’t be intimated.  This makes two loaves, which is a good thing because one won’t last long fresh from the oven.  Wish there was a smell button for you to push, my home smells so good right now.


6 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup white sugar
1 1/2 Tablespoons yeast
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 cups water

In a large bowl add sugar, water and yeast.  Stir to combine.
Let sit for 5 to 15 minutes.
Add salt, oil, 3 cups flour and mix well.
Add remaining flour.
Dust a surface with flour and turn out dough.  Knead for 5 minutes.
Place in a greased bowl and let rise for one hour.
Punch down dough and divide in half.  Jelly roll your dough and place in sprayed baking pans.
Let rise for one hour.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
Brush tops with butter if desired.

  1. Unfortunately, I have not attempted to bake bread before but I am happy to have seen this and read it here! I know how lovely the smell of freshly baked breads are. More so, pairing it with brewed coffee is something that is a delight! 🙂

  4. Wow, what an easy recipe! I love to make fresh bread purely because it makes the house smell so amazing – we used to make it right before people came and viewed our house when we were trying to sell it! This looks so yummy!

    1. Knead you dough into a long shape to fit your pan. Turn the sides under and next turn the ends over. Makes for a pretty loaf of bread.
