  1. This sounds delicious for a frosty evening! This is super simple, and I love the idea of adding salt to enhance the flavor! I’m definitely one for marshmallows over cream!

    1. Salt helps make things taste sweeter. So now you know why salt is added. Leave it out if you want. Doesn’t matter. Personal preference.

  2. love this! I love hot chocolate! I always end up buying and I’m glad now I don’t have to! i have all these ingredients right in my cabinet! thanks so much for this!

  3. This recipes brings back so many memories of sitting in the kitchen watching my great grandma make hot cocoa. It’s a simple recipe but so perfect for chilly days like today.when the kids are of school due to snow.

  4. Our family goes from the chocolate like it is going out of style. This will definitely save me a ton of money on getting hot chocolate from the store.

  5. This is great! I love simple ingredients! I’d rather this than lots of preservatives. I definitely need to be more mindful about things in my pantry with preservatives in them.

  6. This is such a simple way to make hot chocolate, I love it. I am going to have to give this a try as we are major hot chocolate drinkers in the winter season.

  7. Oh my! I never knew it was so easy to make hot chocolate from scratch! I bet it tastes so much better than the pre-made mixes! I’m going to try this!

  8. Wow, that is not so difficult at all. It is nice that we can make our own hot cocoa mix. That would be great because we can adjust the flavor to our liking! Thanks for sharing this.

  9. We’re huge hot cocoa fans at our house because truly, there’s nothing better on a cold winter’s night. For most of my life, I made it by heating some milk in a saucepan and then I’d add my cocoa, sugar, and whisk. Lumps would form. I’d get frustrated because I was unable to break up said lumps, and I’d try again. That is until I ran across a recipe for a homemade hot chocolate mix in a Cook’s Illustrated magazine as I was standing in the check-out line at the grocery. It had my undivided attention because it wasn’t just cocoa and sugar, but ground chocolate, vanilla, and salt. Into my cart went the magazine (of course). I figured what’s the worst that could happen? We’d have to warm up several cups of hot cocoa in a single week in the name of recipe testing? I tell you what, sometimes the job of being a food blogger .. well, somebody has to do it. (ps: The Cook’s Illustrated recipe was really, really good!) x
