This week is all about potatoes.  We have been gleaning potatoes from the field.  Taking advantage of this free food has helped fill my freezer.

Most people enjoy eating Tater Tots.  They are expensive and full of preservatives.  Why not make your own.

Simple, easy and the homemade fresh  tutor tot wins hands down against the frozen version.

Here is want you need.  2 pounds of potatoes, 1 Tablespoon flour, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic and onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon dill, 1/2 teaspoon oregano, salt and pepper to taste.  Oil for frying.

IMG_0844   Peel and boil potatoes until cooked through, but not mushy.  Cool and grate potatoes.  Lay out a towel and place grated potatoes on towel and press gently to soak up any extra water from the potatoes.

In a large bowl add grated potatoes, flour and seasonings.  (you can add different seasoning to suite your family taste).  Mix everything.  Using your hands form tater tots.  Heat oil.  Cook until golden and crispy.

Break out the ketchup and ENJOY!

TIP:  Make several batches of tater tots and freeze.  Pull them out and fry them up.  Easy Peasy!

  1. I have never attempted to make homemade tater tot’s but I think it’s a great idea. You can control how much sodium goes into it and honestly I just like tater tot’s.

  2. I love potatoes, could eat them every day! I have to try making tater tots, it’s been so long since I’ve had some.

  3. I have never tried to make these at home! I think my kids would absolutely love a homemade version of them! I am going to have to try it soon!

  4. The Tater Tots look really crisp and tempting. Nothing like the ones made from fresh potatoes on a cold day.

  5. I never buy the frozen ones. I make my own tater tots. My husband is our potato monster and he wants his tater tots homemade, free from extenders and preservatives.

  6. I’ve stopped buying tater tots because you never know what’s in them. However, if I could them at home, we may be able to eat them again. We may have to give your recipe a try.

  7. I am guilty of buying the frozen tater tots but now that you’ve shared this, I will def make it homemade. I have a lot of dill and oregano in the garden and dunno what to do with them so this would be a great start.
