Forget those store-bought tortilla chips, when you can make your own in no time at all. Noting says party like fresh corn tortilla chips straight from your oven (you can deep fry them) alongside some salsa made from your garden this summer.
First if you don’t feel like making your own corn tortilla chips, feel free to pick up a package at your local store. I will give you the directions on how to deep fry and bake your chips.
1 package corn tortillas, cut into 6 wedges each. Divide the tortillas into separate stacks to cut your wedges.
Salt to taste.
Cast iron skillet with 1/4 inch oil heated or use your deep fryer.
Put your tortilla wedges into the heated oil and let fry for couple minutes. Turn if using a cast iron skillet. Remove from oil, drain and sprinkle with salt.
If baking your chips. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spread on baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes or until crisp. Sprinkle with salt.

The secret to making corn tortilla chips is to use masa harina (found at your local mexican grocery store) and water.

1 3/4 cups masa harina
1 1/8 cups hot water
Mix the masa marina and water until it forms a dough. Knead until pliable and smooth. If dough is sticky add more masa marina, if it begins to dry out sprinkle with water.
Cover dough with plastic wrap let rest for 30 minutes.
Divide dough into 15 equal size balls. Using a tortilla press, rolling-pin or your hands, press each all of dough flat between two sets of plastic wrap.
Preheat cast iron skillet or griddle to medium heat.
Place tortilla in skillet and allow to cook for 30 seconds. Your tortilla should be brown and slightly puffy. Turn tortilla over to brown second side.
Transfer to a plate and repeat with rest of your tortillas.
Keep your tortillas warm by covering with a towel.
